1. The Heinz Julen Penthouse in Zermatt, Switzerland

Zermatt's internationally acclaimed architect, Heinz Julen, designed this extraordinary double-level 260m2 Penthouse which is set above The Loft. With concepts such as a fireplace nesting in the middle of the living-room window, and original hand-made furniture (including Julen's famous chandeliers and chairs), it has featured in several designer magazines.
Very airy in feel, due to the extensive use of glass roofs, the chalet has a unique bird's nest view of the village and the Mischabel mountains. Access is a 2 minute walk from the top of the Omnia Hotel lifts, for which you will have a private key. The village end of the lift delivers you to the heart of Zermatt, in the main street close to the church.
On the main floor there is a large living room with three separate seating areas, a dining section, the open-plan kitchen and two terraces. There are two bedrooms with high beamed ceilings at each end of this floor. Each bedroom has an en-suite shower/WC, TV and a balcony.
The top floor consists of the master bedroom with a free-standing round jacuzzi bath, sloping glass ceilings, stunning views, and a separate en-suite shower/WC.
On the ground floor you will find the fourth double bedroom with en-suite massage shower and WC; your private glass-fronted sauna, an exercise room with a treadmill and two loungers to relax in.
All three floors are accessed by your own private elevator and/or stairs. Superb, stylish and clever, the Heinz Julen Penthouse vies with the Loft for the prize of Zermatt's most original property.

2. This house in London with a retractable glass roof

Located in Chelsea, an affluent area of central London, is a home with a unique feature. The four bedroom, four bathroom home has a top floor family area with a retractable glass roof. The home is available for sale and is being listed by Carter Jonas for a cool 3.75 million pounds (approx. $6 million USD).
The first two pictures below show the original design from the architect while the final two pictures show how the owners have actually decorated the space to be more of a family/living room space.

4. This former church turned apartment in London, UK

A church round the corner from Harrods has been converted into one of London's most expensive homes and is on the market for £50million.
The 11,500sq ft house in Knightsbridge was sold 15 years ago by the Diocese of London, which needed money for urgent repairs, for just £1million after congregation numbers fell.
It was then turned into a four-storey home complete with basement swimming pool and was owned by Alain Boublil - writer of Les Miserables and Miss Saigon.

It has features to die for, including a cinema room, wellness centre, outdoor hot tub and a dedicated relaxation room for yoga or Pilates.Describing Chalet Grace as ‘fully catered’ does not do it justice. 6. This resort in St. Lucia

7. Chalet Brickell in the Rhone-Alpes, France

Chalet Brickell is a recently opened (December 2011) luxury chalet in Megève, a commune in the Rhône-Alpesregion, France. It was designed by Swiss firm Pure Concept and boasts 12,900 square feet of lavishly appointed spaces. This translates to seven beautiful and cozy bedrooms, enough to accommodate up to 18 guests at a time.
The building is located at the foot of the mountain, offering amazing views and excellent vacationing conditions. Elegant decorations, luxe fabrics, noble materials, and warm colors are some of the details that give this place a unique, sophisticated charm. The service too is simply impeccable.
Every room has its own character, like the plush Master bedroom, the opulent Golden bedroom with gilded details, the White bedroom with leather-paneled walls, and the large, welcoming living room. Also very nice are the indoor pool area, the home cinema, the night club, the massage room, and pretty much every single inch of the chalet!

8. This converted cathedral space

Many visitors to Western Europe know the feeling of visiting converted cathedral space too well. The Duomo in Florence, Notre Dame de Paris, the Kölner Dom, St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome – the list goes on and on and is itself impressive, even if not exhaustive. Luckily for the afflicted, a refreshing surprise awaits those who head to lovely Maastricht. Selexyz Dominicanen stands tall in the center of the city. A 13th century gothic church, it offers its visitors a breathtaking high ceiling, a majestic nave, grand ornamentation, and an opportunity to worship: not at the great altar of God, but at the many altars of literature. Recently rated the world’s “fairest bookshop” by the UK’s highly-regarded Guardian newspaper, the Dominicanen has quickly become one of Maastricht’s tourist attractions. “After the Guardian article, this place has been a madhouse,” remarks William Remmers, General Department Head of the store. Remmers recently met with a certain Crossroads reporter to answer a few questions about the church, the bookstore, and their shared history. We sat in what was once the sanctuary of the church, and where now buzzes a Coffee lovers café. “You have to mention Coffeelovers,” he insists. “They are a small Maastricht-based coffee store that sells pretty much the best coffee in the world.” The bookstore fits almost snugly between Maastricht’s two dominant squares, the Markt and the Vrijthof.

9. The Sleeper-McCann House in Gloucester, MA

Behind the stonewall and beneath the various peaks and pitches of the roofline pictured above with its assortment of turrets and gables and chimneys, sits one of the most beautiful and intriguing historic homes on the North Shore which can be found a mere 19 miles from Salem when guests of the Hawthorne Hotel head towards Cape Ann and picturesque Eastern Point on Gloucester Harbor.Beauport, also known as the Sleeper-McCann House, is one of thirty-six properties owned and operated by Historic New England. As the oldest, largest, and most comprehensive regional heritage organization in the nation founded in 1910 as the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, Historic New England's mission is to preserve and present the cultural and architectural heritage of New England. Located within the Essex National Heritage Area, the 1907 former home of Henry Davis Sleeper is a must-see if you're interested in old New England homes and the uniqueness that they contain as you really can't get much more unique than this 40-room "summer cottage" designed using a mixture of imaginative creation and historical re-creation along with a combination of French, English, Colonial American, and Oriental motifs that took twenty years to complete.

10. The Over Water Bungalow at Le Meridien in Bora Bora

Le Méridien Bora Bora is the perfect blend of French chic and Polynesian charisma. Located on the northern tip of Motu Piti A'au, a small islet that sits along the eastern coral reef, the resort faces the main island of Bora Bora and delivers a gorgeous view of the iconic Mount Otemanu. The overwater bungalows, which make up the majority of guest accommodations at the hotel, feature the largest glass floors of any other resort in French Polynesia. There is also a selection of beach bungalows and private pool villas better suited for families.Home to the famed Turtle Sanctuary, Le Méridien Bora Bora is a true friend to the environment. The hotel features an interior lagoon where it provides protection and care for endangered sea turtles. Nearby is also an interactive touch pool filled with hermit crabs, sea cucumbers, starfish and clams, meaning the kids can enjoy a fun and safe marine biology experience during your stay. Another main attraction at the resort is the Miki Miki Bar; designed to resemble the prow of a ship, it points straight toward Mount Otemanu and provides the ideal place for sunset cocktails

11. The Igloo Village in Kakslauttanen, Finland

Nestled in the wilderness near Finland’s Urho Kekkonen National Park, Hotel Kakslauttanen has one of the Arctic Circle’s best views of the Aurora Borealis. The sparse trees and complete lack of light pollution reveal millions of stars each night, and during the peak winter months the location offers incredible views of the Northern Lights.
Each glass igloo is fitted with thermal glass walls and ceilings, that insulate the interior to keep it warm and cozy at night. The glass also contains a frost preventative, maintaining crystal clear panoramic views even when temperatures outside drop to -22 degrees fahrenheit. Fitted for two people, the igloos are small enough to be efficiently heated without consuming too much energy.
One of the world’s seven natural wonders, Aurora Borealis results from the collision of gaseous particles from the earth’s atmosphere with charged particles released from the sun. The resulting burst of colored light can last from less than a second to nearly two minutes. Though the lights are visible from August to April, the peak viewing time is in the darkness of the winter months.
Although the hotel does not guarantee a view of the Northern Lights, they keep constant watch over the weather conditions and ring a signaling bell for visitors to look to the sky when the phenomenon is visible.
The main hotel also includes the world’s largest smoke sauna complete with its own restaurant, and an ice bar and snow chapel that is built fresh every winter. For the more adventurous, the hotel also offers lodging in a dozen traditional igloos made of ice. These ice houses have an internal temperature of only 21 degrees fahrenheit, so you better pack warm!

12. The Ladera Resort in St. Lucia Resort

This unique luxury resort in St. Lucia is made up of 32 one- and two-bedroom villas, each carefully carved into the surrounding hillside overlooking the island’s iconic twin Pitons. The villas -- which have missing fourth walls, and in most cases, private plunge pools -- are a main draw, as are the spectacular views and lush grounds. The resort also features some fabulous amenities, such as an infinity lagoon pool, a gorgeous open-air restaurant and bar, a (tiny) open-air fitness center, and a lovely spa with black water soaking baths. All of this comes at a price, but Ladera is still significantly cheaper than the ultra-glam Jade Mountain (rates are often around half as much). Ladera is within close range of several of the island’s best tourist destinations -- notable cocoa plantations are within walking distance, the pristine white sands of Jalousie beach are a short drive away, and tourist hot spots like the volcano and Tet-Paul nature trails are both nearby.

14. This underwater bedroom in the Maldives

Sleeping underwater amongst marine life is something many of us could only daydream about. For some lucky travelers, this dream has now turned into a reality.A little over five years ago, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island opened the very first undersea restaurant. To celebrate their anniversary, the restaurant offered guests the chances to not only eat under the sea, but sleep under it as well. The 12-seat restaurant, which sits 16 feet below sea level of the Indian Ocean, was converted into a private bedroom suite for two, complete with a private champagne dinner and breakfast in bed. The view of the vibrant coral reef that surrounds the encased clear glass is utterly breathtaking.

15. The Garden House in Brazil

Brazilian architect David Guerra designed the wonderful Garden House, transforming an 1980’s house into this state-of-the-art residence. The house was built for the director of a company with the head office in London. The major changes in the redesign of the place were probably the extension of the interior and the exterior and the new windows, which make the rooms seem even more spacious, since they used to be so dark in the past.
The house had to be adjusted to the day-to-day needs so some extra spaces were added, to match the contemporary architectural requirements. Some walls have been destroyed in the process, doors were turned into walls, structures have been recuperated, new systems have been installed concerning the illumination, the electric and hydraulic system,a wine cellar was added to the plan of the house,a sauna,a deck and a pool and a gourmet kitchen.
