Another Book Read... READ HERE
I finished reading Love Anthony by Lisa Genova last night.Somehow I found the novel plot slow-moving, and several times I wanted to just put it down and start reading another book. But I plodded along.
Perhaps that having just read Defending Jacob, I was again ready for a fast-paced read. And this isn't what I'd call a fast-paced read.
I'd say this book isn't as good as the other book I read recently by this author titled Left Neglected.
Defending Jacob, I thought, was a phenomenal book that I could barely put down. I find I'm still thinking about the characters a week or so after I finished the novel. That is the mark of a great book!
I'm getting ready to start The Silent Sister by Diane Chamberlain. I've read her books before. So we'll see how this one stacks up.
Then I have Tami Hoag's The 9th Girl...
And I also ordered from Amazon.com blogger Jenny Lawson's book Let's Pretend This Never Happened. (On the cover it says: A Mostly True Memoir.)
Jenny Lawson writes the very popular blog The Bloggess.
Jenny's book, published in 2012, is not for the faint of heart. For those of you who are easily offended, you might not want to read this book or her blog.
Her humor is irreverent, and as Oprah is cited having said on the back of the book...
"Lawson' self-deprecating humor is not only gaspingly funny and wonderfully inappropriate; it allows her to speak...in a real and raw way."
Is gaspingly a word???
Anyway, award-winning Jenny Lawson has been writing The Bloggess since June 2007. And she is a noted speaker at many functions. So regardless of the way she says exactly what she thinks, and this is often a bit much, she is successful at what she does.
Jenny has had a rather strange life. And I find that these are often the most interesting people.
On the back of the book...
"For every intellectual misfit who thought they were the only ones to think the things that Lawson dares to say out loud, this is a poignant and hysterical look at the dark, disturbing, yet wonderful moments of our lives."
Jenny recently published another book...focusing on mental illness.
Yes, she writes the words that I might think, but not put down. But then I think there is room for all of us. And Jenny Lawson's ongoing popularity is a nod to her success in longevity, regardless of her raw and biting wit and sharp tongue.
Parade said of Jenny's first book..."Take one part David Sedaris and two parts Chelsea Handler and you'll have some inkling of the cockeyed human of Jenny Lawson. She flaunts the sort of fearless comedic chops that will make you spurt Coke through your nose..."
I think they described Jenny Lawson well. She is nothing if not fearless!
If you go over to her blog, remember that I warned you! (But you know that's exactly why many of you will go steal a look anyway...)
So where are you on the 2016 Book Challenge? I probably read maybe 3 books in January. I'll have to get them out and put it in my sidebar.
See you later for Tweak It.
